How can you rock your law practice? Listen to actual rock stars. The lyrics of several popular songs contain keys to success and you don’t have to spin your records backwards to hear them. Writing, performing and recording music takes considerable drive and requires discipline. Just like practicing law. There’s that old saying time is money. Well, wasting time wastes money. That’s why it’s important to plan your time. I recommend planning your day with tasks that need to get done, allotting time for them and then sticking to the plan. You can very easily do it with a simple daily schedule template. Here’s one of mine from a real day early in the pandemic.
Where did I come up with this idea? It was actually by watching an episode of Happy Days, which was not part of this highly scheduled day. “Rock Around the Clock” by Bill Haley and His Comets was used as the opening theme song for the first two seasons of Happy Days. I realized that the key to having happy days was to plan your time accordingly. It worked for Bill. Here is his schedule:
Not every rocker rocks around the clock. Some also party. Few bands have been as successful as Kiss. The reason: Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons manage time effectively. They don’t rock and roll all the time or party all the time. They instead utilize a party/rock balance:
Rock and roll all night and party every day by planning ahead.
Not everyone is into planning hour by hour. Some people prefer to set days aside for longer tasks. Just ask Robert Smith from the Cure. Here is his weekly schedule:
Robert Smith was such a good planner he even wrote about what to do In Between Days. The lyrics and his success, speak for themselves.
